What ʻawa is, and what it does
  • 5 lb $300.00
  • 25 lb $1,500.00
  • 40 lb $2,400.00

Cultivars are chosen at harvest and can’t be requested. Every bag is labelled with the one inside it.

Which cultivars can I order?

We’re still a growing farm, and we harvest when the plants are ready. That means nature is going to choose which cultivars are available. For now, we’ll send you a variety of cultivars. You can’t choose the variety you receive just yet.

Every bag is labelled with the specific cultivar of ʻawa inside, so you always know what you’re drinking. We aim to send around five different cultivars so you can try them all!

The Noble 13

We grow all thirteen traditional Hawaiian ʻawa cultivars. We’ll send you whichever varieties are mature and ready for your ʻapu (coconut shell).

What ʻawa is, and what it does

Kava, known as ʻawa in Hawaiʻi, is a plant grown across the Melanesian and Polynesian islands. After three to five years of growth, the plant’s stump and roots are washed and ground, then mixed with water to make a beverage.

In traditional Hawaiian practice ʻawa brought people together through shared consumption. It has been used for generations to relax and wind down at the end of the day.

Studies have shown ʻawa may help with certain forms of anxiety, stress and restlessness.

Preparing it

Thaw, blend with water, strain through a fine bag and squeeze. Share it.

Keeping it

Straight into the freezer on arrival. Use within a year.

Where it grows

Our own fields above Hilo, on the wet side of the island.

Ships frozen, Mondays and Tuesdays

Packed cold and sent early in the week so nothing sits in transit over a weekend. We can’t ship to PO boxes — frozen freight needs a street address.

Mālama ʻĀina

The land helps us and we help the land.

We farm thirteen Hawaiian ʻawa cultivars above Hilo, grow kalo alongside them, and plant native species through our ahupuaʻa.
