Island Reserve Frozen 'Awa 1 Pound Bags
Fresh, frozen kava root from our farm in Hilo — cut, cleaned and frozen the day it leaves the ground, in fixed weights for a household, a hale or wholesale.
Frozen root only ships at the start of the week, so it's never sitting in transit over a weekend. A street address is required — we can't ship frozen freight to a PO box.
What 'awa is, and what it does
'Awa (kava) is the root of a pepper-family shrub grown across the Pacific, cut, cleaned and pounded into a drink that's been part of Hawaiian and Pacific Islander life for generations.
Traditionally it's prepared and shared — a bowl passed around at the end of the day, at a gathering, or between friends, more ritual than remedy.
Research is newer: studies have shown 'awa may help with certain forms of anxiety, stress and restlessness.

Preparing it
Thaw, then mix with cold water and strain through cloth — no cooking, no heat.
Keeping it
Keep it frozen until you're ready to use it, then thaw only what you need for that batch.
Where it grows
Under shade, in old ground, at the wet edge of Hilo town — the same water it has always had.
